I have an iPAQ Pocket PC and love it. It is able to run most Windows
software programs and can import files into e version it can read. It is
not very battery hungry until you run graphics such as mapping software.
GPS is available but requires bluetooth. The GPS system (which I don't have
on mine but a friend does) appears to work well in the car but not as good
as a dedicated system such as NAVMAN or equivalent.

Mapping software is available from everywhere for Pocket PCs and PALMs.
Just make sure it will talk to the other PC software on your home computer
(ie if I click on a paddock i have just fertilised and put in what was
applied on my iPAQ then i want it to put it into my physical books to
record paddock treatment).

In every brand there are bound to be lemons. However I have found mine not
to be one. I have dropped my PDA too many time to count. It does not have a
cover, is exposed to dirt (not mud) quite often and has even had liquid
spilt on it and it works fine. Best investment apart from the PDA was the
memory card.

A cover would certainly increase the bulk of the item but way be worth it
for protecting the $1000 or so dollars you will be spending.
