MORE MILK, BUT WHAT ABOUT PROFIT AND LIFESTYLE?
Jeff and Dianne Brusamarello's dairy farm has seen quite a few changes =
since the start of the GippsDairy Focus Farm Project on their farm 3 =
years ago. There has been a 43 % increase in the milk solids production =
from the farm, due partly to increased cow numbers but also increased =
production per cow. There's been a focus on grazing management, nitrogen =
fertilisers and feeding cows better at the right time of the year. As =
the business has grown there have been all the other issues of expanding =
farms, in particular labour management and making sure that the books =
balance at the end of the year.=20
But there's no point in all this expansion and extra production unless =
there's more profit and, hopefully, a better lifestyle. Is that the =
case?
The Final Field Day of the Wonthaggi Focus Farm is open to anyone who's =
interested and will be held on Jeff and Di's farm, examining in detail =
the changes on the farm and if it is more profitable as a result of all =
the activity over the past 3 years.=20
The day will involve a brief farm walk, to see how the farm and the herd =
have been set up for the coming season, and to identify the really =
important decisions that were made to achieve this result. In the =
afternoon the Support Group will examine the physical figures, but most =
importantly the financial results for the current year. As one of the =
Support Group members commented, "You can talk about improving lifestyle =
as much as you like, but if there's no money then it's pretty hard to =
have a good lifestyle!" Come along and judge for yourself.=20
The Field Day is to be held on Wednesday July the 5th at McDonalds Road =
