Hello all
A common scenario we come across is a farmer wanting to improve their pasture management skills, lifting utilisation from say 5 tonnes DM/ha to 7 or 8 (dryland), what are say as a start three simple ways this can be done. The DPI guys are going to say do a feeding pastures for profit course but it can be hard to get farmers to commit the time.
The reason I ask is if you can get a farmer to work on these three or four things and set a target it can actually be part of a finance proposal rather than simple saying farmer A undertakes to do a pasture course.
Encouraging farmers to do a "Taking Stock" analysis or engage a consultant to work out their pasture management performance as distinct from the pure financials, can really assist banks in working out the future goals for the business and helping young farmers in particular get into dairying.
Thoughts?
