Winging about the rain and the milk price is meant to be the prerogative of us “Poms”.
 
Let me know when you have all given up and gone to work as semen reps and I’ll book my ticket and pick up a couple of farms the like of which we dream of here in the UK!

Hello All
Well the rain has fallen again, giving us a few more inches at the wrong time, unless you have some of those wonderful summer crops in.  I agree with David in regards to the dairy job. With the rise in land values, the price of fuel, the weather, and the ever present threat of milk prices dropping, WHY STAY just doing what we enjoy doing; we now need greater incentives to stay. I hope that the industry with the drop in production, has been given a wake up call that we can’t sustain the milk prices they keep handing us. The price needs to continue to improve for us to maintain a profit ourselves in order for us to stay. They also need to be aware, hopefully they aren’t that blind, that there are a lot of outside pressures that affect the
amount of milk they receive, it is not just milk price that is the driving force. A lot of us can’t expand due to the price of land around us, or we just don’t want to, because we have lost faith in the industry and we are just filling in time.
The next 6 months will be interesting; we keep saying this. The price and the weather will have it’s say again in the future of a number of good people who have asked themselves, WHY STAY.
