Hello everyone,

It is true that many people are leaving the dairy industry and also farming
in general there are many reasons for this. It is the people within each
farm business who hold the key to whether that business will continue.

The people within a business and especially within a family business as most
farms are, are the most important asset. The land and the herd cannot
function without the people who manage that business, if the human aspect of
the business is not happy then no amount of advice on producing grass and
getting the cows to milk better will achieve anything.

Being self employed and running a business that is highly dependent upon
things that are outside our control such as the weather is stressful, add to
that the fact that farmers are working long hours seven days a week and your
home and work is the same place means that unlike other's you cannot even go
home and leave work behind.

Having a profitable business is measured by the people within that business
also, there are many farms milking less than 200 cows whose owners are very
happy with what they are producing and are living very comfortable lives
doing the things they wish to do. If the people are happy it is more likely
the business, in their opinion, will be doing well and they will be
motivated to manage it in the way that ensures they continue to enjoy it
through the good times and the bad.

At Rural Family Resources we help the people in Rural Business understanding
