Well, the more things change the more they stay the same. We put our farm up
for auction recently, thought it would be a good time to sell, but had
little or no response. In the lead up to the auction our second son, having
just finished engineering course at uni, came home to help get things tidied
up a bit. By a week prior to the auction it was obvious that he had
something on his mind. He wanted to come back onto the farm. He was still in
favour of a sale if we got the right price, but that didn't look likely to
happen. So his decision made us a bit more comfortable about setting a
reasonable target for a sale price. As it was there was no interest on the
day, so we are still farmers. I must admit I was uncertain about the whole
selling up thing- despite all the ups and downs, trials and tribulations,
it's a great life.

Still, Sandie and I do have other things we want to do despite still being
farmers. And we want to make sure that Huw has a life outside farming as
well. Huw has lived on the farm all his life apart from uni, (as have I) but
has had no formal dairy training yet. So we need some more labour and
management input into the farm.

We are looking for someone to fill a full-time position on our 400+ cow
farm. Would prefer someone with the training and desire to have input into
management decisions, as well as undertaking the day to day jobs. Needs to
be able and willing to work weekends. House or board available.

If you know of someone who might be interested please email off-list.

Phil Evans
