                    I suspect the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman may
have a different opinion to your local Telstra people. http://www.tio.com.au
or phone 1800 062 058.

                    I found that it needed a direct short on top of the
phone line to disconnect me. Driving slowly along the road (following the
phone line) with the radio on and listening for the clicks over the radio
works well to find faults. Also I have heard about two situations were
internal modems seem to be more affected than external modems by this problem.

                    As a last resort have you thought about joining Bigpond,
bet Telstra would be keener to fix your line then.:-)
