Hello everyone,
This item is different to the Young Farmers's Futures Group, so if you're a
young farmer (35 or under perhaps?), please read on.
You may have heard of the DairyFest (young dairy farmers conference) that
was planned for Warrnambool next week. Well, it's been postponed because of
low numbers.(There were a few factors that caused the low numbers - hard to
get away over night, calving, the recent conference at Warrnambool, etc).
Therefore, the UDV will work with GippsDairy, Murray Dairy and WestVic
Dairy, to identify exactly what skills young farmers want to develop.
For example, are you mainly seeking technical skills, and are your needs
being covered? Do you want to develop self-confidence, communication and
negotiation skills? Do you want to know more about industry organisiations,
and how you can become involved and influence them?
A series of focus meetings will be held around Victoria in the next few
weeks, asking young farmers what would be most useful. Two meetings will be
held in Gippsland on Tuesday 4th May - south or west Gippsland in the
morning (depending where people are coming from), then Maffra in the
afternoon. The duration is about 1.5 - 2 hours.
At the same time, existing programs aimed at young people are being
evaluated so that we don't duplicate what is already available. Given this
information, and responses from the focus meetings, a program will be
developed if there is demand for it, and piloted.
If you have time to participate, I'd be pleased to hear from you. And if
you know people who might like to be involved but don't use email, could
you please invite them along as well? I know there's a lot on at the
moment, but hope we can get about 15 at each of the two Gippsland meetings.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Regards, Sandra Jefford
