Hi everyone,
We are connected to Network Technology, they have a pop in Yarram,
so it is a local call. We got a block of 100 hours for $90. The
connection is a local call. BUT, 3 times out of 4 we cannot access the
net! We are able to call the morwell server {long distance} to download
email when we get sick of trying in here, first ring, instant service,
fast response, so it can't be our computer, but the line sometimes drops
out from there to, possibly a shorting electric fence interference, the
phone line does click, and no we do not have call waiting on the phone
line. Then every now and then, no problems! Net-techs response to
the Yarram server, "We are waiting on parts" for the Yarram server,
maybe its your phone line. Telecoms response 'If you have more than a
standard Telstra phone in your socket, Its your problem' That makes
sense when your trying to access with a modem! Yes we disconnected
everything and tried just the telecom handpiece, it still clicked, we
turned off all our electric fences, yes it still clicked. I wonder if
the neighbors would mind if we turned all theirs off, or fixing their
fence
shorts! This is one problem facing the new technology explosion for
people on the land, with shorting fences and over crowded servers, but,
we still get our e-mail! I'd suggest people check their lines before
connecting. A neighbor further out than us couldn't even run a fax
machine for a long time because of the lines and electric fence
interference, the internet is a lot touchier, from what we hear,
everytime the fence clicks, it drops the net down a couple of k's so if
you connect at a high enough speed, we usually get on at about 45, you
will get about 5 or so minutes, long enough to send of a email and
receive incoming, then start looking up info somewhere else then, its
off. Apperently there is another server in Yarram from a different lot,
they are looking good! We might at least get in first try, at local
rates.
