If the proposed payout to Dairyfarmers is supposed to be compensation for
future loss of earnings, then an equitable method of payment would be as a
supplementary payment to milk prices over the next 3 years. eg. half the
payment in the first 12 months and the balance split over years 2 and 3.
This type of payment system would reduce problems between farm owners and
sharefarmers. It would also spread the compensation to cover the period of
transition from regulation.
