In the first year of the drought we had a lot of pinkeye in calves as they were
getting ad lib round bale silage in feeders as well as grain in troughs and we
found it hard to keep on top of the flies and assoc pinkeye.

Our Pinkeye treatment consists of any mastitis
treatment ( usually Orbenin or Mastop) + a pinkeye patch made out of old
overalls material and just use any good glue carefully.

We leave the bottom open for drainage and change
it after 48 hrs.

We put a lather of the ointment on again and
leave it for three to five days and we have had calves with a significant
opacity recover fully.

We also put Arrest on them, even though it isnt
cheap, it will save you a lot of hours in yarding and treating calves for
Pinkeye.

Friends,
I milk on a farm every second weekend, doing any other jobs that are
necessary. Last weekend this involved treating calves for pinkeye. The
treatment regime is Orbenin pink eye ointment, as per the instructions on
the packet. Have any of you out there had muck success with pink eye
patches, particularly on more advanced cases?
Thanks,
Richard
