Maybe I might misunderstand you, but if you wish all the notes (*, 1, 2, 3 ...) as footnotes, you don't need any work around such as Footer-note described in my previous posting. The follwing steps will do the job. 1. Insert all the notes -- including the "asterisked" one -- as normal footnotes (Insert -> Footnote/Endnote). They will appear as 1, 2, 3, 4 ... 2. Switch to Notes edit window. 3. Select the one you want to change the symbol (for examble, note 1). 4. Open Note Symbols dialog box (from Notes pull down menu in menu bar). 5. Set Symbols [In the Document] to "*". Be sure that "*" is selected also for [In the Notes] and that [for this note only] is checked. 6. Push OK. After this, your notes will appear as *, 1, 2, 3 ... You can switch notes placement anytime (Footnotes -> Endnotes or Endnotes -> Footnotes). For this, all you have to do is to open Note Placement dialog box (from Notes pull down menu in menu bar) and set [Display Notes as] Endnotes or Footnotes. Hope this helps Yusuke KINOSHITA
