This "Remove HTML tags" macro that came with NE works pretty well for making downloaded news items readable. As someone (I forget who, sorry) pointed out a while ago, you can quickly download files from the Web with Netscape by holding down option and clicking on the link. Works great, especially for downloading items from news sites, but you get the file in source. So open it in NW, and run this macro.
