I'm working on a preflight/collection script for Quark Xpress. Getting the art and fonts from the Quark doc shouldn't present any big problems, however getting the fonts used in EPS files looks like a challenge. I created an Illustrator eps with two or three fonts and a similar Quark doc which I saved as an eps. I opened these eps files in a text editor to see how the font information was written. The problem is the font info in the two eps files is recorded quite differently. This leads me to believe that it will be difficult to write one routine that will extract this info from any eps file, since apparently different eps creating programs will all record this information in their own peculiar way. I can't anticipate all the programs people may use to create eps files so I have no way of determining how they all write that information. Has anyone else dealt with this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to attack this? Am I biting off more than I want to with this? I realize there are programs and/or scripts available that do this preflighting/ collecting. We use Flightcheck here where I work. I'm doing this so I can have a free utility to give to our customers and to help myself improve my own Applescripting abilities.
